Using Advanced Concepts in WaterSmart Landscape Design to earn Gold Star Level Recognition
By using the Gold Star Advanced Training application and attending the 3 sessions of Advanced Concepts in WaterSmart Landscape Design, you will be on your way to receiving Advanced Master Gardener Gold Star recognition. Here is some helpful information that you can use to determine which requirements still need to be completed after the training sessions are complete.
Master Gardeners do not need to have earned the Silver Star to in order to qualify for the Gold Star program.
Requirements for the Gold Star Level
• MG's must have current active status, completed 50 hours of volunteer service, and County Extension Office written approval. - YOU’VE GOT THIS COVERED.
• Must select one of the following specific subject areas:
*Sustainable Garden and Landscape-THIS COULD ALSO APPLY.
*Water Quality and Management- THIS IS THE ONE THIS COURSE
IS DESIGNED FOR.
*Youth Gardening
*Diagnostics & Technology
*Urban Forestry and Ecology
• 6 Total modules required (3 subject area, 2 electives and 1 required)
*3 Subject Areas – COVERED. THIS TRAINING WILL PROVIDE THE THREE MODULES FOR SUBJECT AREA- MISS ONE AND YOU DON’T MEET THE REQUIREMENT.
*2 Electives - MGs NEED TWO OTHER MODULES – ANY TWO
*1 Required –YOUR MG WILL STILL NEED TO TAKE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Communications, Creative Teaching Techniques or Leadership
• Volunteer Project must be completed and YOU HAVE A LOT OF LATITUDE HERE. SOME POSSIBLE PROJECTS ARE:
*SET UP DEMONSTRATION OF A RAIN BARREL
*ASSESS A PUBLIC LANDSCAPE FOR A RETROFIT
*CREATE A WATER SMART GARDEN
*IF YOU HAVE ANOTHER IDEA – GO FOR IT!
• A complete Gold Star Application must be submitted to CEA with copy to Master Gardener Coordinator. HERE IT IS: Gold Star Application Package
• Project approval is required before and after project completion by County Extension Office. YOU HAVE THAT COVERED.
